SMR HR Group Sdn. Bhd. is a professional services firm specializing in human resources development. Founded in 1978 and officially registered as a private limited company in 1989, it is now a part of the University of Cyberjaya. With a broad client base across almost all of Asia, the company is committed to promoting learning and improving performance.
In the year 2025, the firm as part of a succession plan inducted younger team members into leadership positions. The Vision and Mission remains unchanged and the firm is in the midst of introducing new products and services.
In 2020, Minda Global Berhad, a publicly listed company, now known as Cyberjaya Education Group Berhad, acquired SMR HR Group Sdn Bhd from SMRT Holdings Berhad as part of a corporate exercise. This acquisition consolidated all learning businesses within Cyberjaya Education Group Berhad, which includes two universities, three colleges, an International School, and an English Language Centre.
Cyberjaya Education Group Berhad is a leading educational player in Malaysia, while SMRT Holdings Berhad focused mainly on the technology sector with IOT solutions. Although SMR HR Group has global reach, our primary focus remains in Asia, specifically Malaysia, Southeast Asia (ASEAN), and the Gulf Cooperation Countries (GCC) in the Middle East. We remain dedicated as a human resources development firm with a strong passion for learning and people development.
With SMRT being a Public Listed Corporation, the company expanded into the Education sector. Our initial foray was in the area of English Language Training (ELT). Subsequently, we ventured out into Tertiary Education.
In 2006, SMR HR Group reached a significant milestone with the listing of SMRT Holdings Berhad on Bursa Malaysia. This marked a new era of growth and expansion, enabling the company to strengthen its position as a leader in human capital development and talent solutions. The listing provided the foundation for future innovation and strategic partnerships, reinforcing SMR’s commitment to transforming the HR landscape.
During this period, we grew into a full-fledged professional services human resources development firm. The firm committed to helping people learn and perform grew rapidly throughout Asia and worked for customers in almost all of Asia.
Starting out in late 1978 as a sole proprietorship and subsequently, as a partnership, we were formalized as a private limited company in 1989. In the early days, we were primarily a corporate training company focusing on Trainer Training and Management Development. It was also during this period that we organized the Trainers Meet Trainers (TMT®) Conference & Expo that became the signature event all over Asia. The event has now grown into the Learning Extravaganza, the Asia HRD Congress™. The Asia HRD Awards Is also organized annually with partners.
