A professional services human resources development firm with roots since 1978 and formally registered in 1989. With customers in almost all of Asia, the firm is committed to helping people learn and perform.

2020 To Now

In 2020, as part of a corporate exercise, our subsidiary and public listed company Minda Global Berhad acquired SMR HR Group Sdn Bhd, from SMRT Holdings Berhad. This was to consolidate all learning businesses within Minda Global which runs two universities, three colleges, an International School, and an English Language Centre. Minda Global Berhad remains a premier educational player in Malaysia. SMRT Holdings Berhad continued to focus mainly on the technology space. While SMR HR Group has worked around the world, our focus largely remains Asian, specifically Malaysia – South East Asia (ASEAN) and the Gulf Cooperation Countries (GCC) in the Middle East. And, we remain truly a human resources development company with an intense passion for learning and people development.

2006 – 2019

With SMRT being a Public Listed Corporation, the company expanded into the Education sector. Our initial foray was in the area of English Language Training (ELT). Subsequently, we ventured out into Tertiary Education.

2000

This was also the period that saw us expanding our services into the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. We worked with several large organisations such as Abu Dhabi Police, Ministry of Interior, Tamkeen, Bahrain, Qatar Foundation, Orpic, Oman and Petro Rabigh in Saudi Arabia.(APEA).

90’s

While we were largely seen as a training-led Human Resources solutions provider as a result of our strong domain expertise in Management and Human Resource systems, we were in the early 90’s moving into developing Learning & Competency software as a result of the growing interest in Competency Management. And subsequently, we ventured out into consulting solutions. This period also witnessed us creating our own intellectual property that was unique to the Asian management context. In partnership with international partners, we developed formidable processes and solutions to help our customers achieve their productivity and business objectives. These developments gave us the strength to move into the Technology world in 2001 with the formalization of our technology companies in the learning area, achieving the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) status.

70’s-80’s 

Starting out in late 1978 as a sole proprietorship and subsequently, as a partnership, we were formalized as a private limited company in 1989. In the early days, we were primarily a corporate training company focusing on Trainer Training and Management Development. It was also during this period that we organized the Trainers Meet Trainers (TMT®) Conference & Expo that became the signature event all over Asia. The event has now grown into the Learning Extravaganza, the Asia HRD Congress™. The Asia HRD Awards Is also organized annually with partners.
